Their family business specializes in Blanc de Blancs Grand Cru d’Avize, a prestigious terroir of the Côte des Blancs, for four generations of winegrowers.
Champagne is made up of several wine-growing regions, some are planted with Meunier, others with Pinot Noir. The one where they are located carries Chardonnay, the only white grape variety in Champagne. This is why the lands that host their vineyards are called the Côte des Blancs. This part of Champagne today covers 2500 ha and is characterized by the extreme purity of its chalks.
The cru, which corresponds to a wine-growing commune, is the particular combination of a grape variety, a terroir and a climate. There are 320 crus and around 278,000 parcels with specific identities. There are 17 Grands Crus which cover 14% of the total area of the appellation. Among them, only 6 are in the Côte des Blancs and our 77 plots are located exclusively in 3 communes classified as Grand Cru: Avize, Oger and Le Mesnil-sur-Oger.
This grape variety is the second most planted white grape variety in the world. It belongs to great history since the first plan was brought back from Cyprus in the 12th century.
The only white grape variety in the Champagne appellation area, its establishment in the Côte des Blancs is the result of long observations. It is best suited to chalky subsoil and allows the best expression of their terroir. It is distinguished by characteristics of incomparable finesse and elegance. Its most frequent taste particularities in its youth are notes of white fruit and flowers, to evolve towards aromas of butter, brioche or hazelnut for more mature wines.
